Allendale is a quiet village in the north Pennine and has a number of pubs to drink & eat from, a local independent co-op, tea rooms, a local park, museum, gift shop & health centre all within 5 minutes walking distance from the cottage. Once you hit the road in a car you can discover some of the fantastic places to visit in Northumberland and County Durham. Allendale is famous for throwing a party with the traditional new years event being the pick of the lot. The Allendale folk festival also brings visitors from far and wide with a 2 day festival attracting some of the best folk acts from all over the UK. Don't forget to enjoy a pint of real Ale made by the local Allendale brewery. Their ale can be found in the local pubs and also in their onsite shop at the brewery. Due to being surrounded by rolling countryside, there are walking and cycling routes everywhere. For any keen walkers don't forget to enter into the famous Allendale challenge - a 25 mile walk/run over the hills.
Allendale doesn't have fantastic public transport due to its location. However, there is a bus service that runs from Hexham. Its the 688 service. We do recommend having a car for your stay with us in Allendale. If you arriving to perhaps Hexham via train you can hire a car from enterprise, only a 10 minute walk from the station.
